DONCASTER
A BRIEF HISTORY
Doncaster Golf Club was founded in 1894 and moved to its current location in 1909 on land referred to as “The Warren”. This new location presented very sandy ground conditions leading the renowned course architect Dr Alister MacKenzie to refer to the course as “having more the character of the real seaside links among the sand dunes than any inland course I am acquainted with”. Dr Mackenzie visited the course in 1911 and his observations can be viewed by clicking on the link below. The course was extended to 18 holes in 1914 and, over many years, developed into a location renowned for its quality of greens and excellent drainage throughout the year.
The next major change occurred in the 1970’s when construction of the M18 motorway took some of the Club’s land and required the construction of several new holes on adjoining land. These new holes were designed by the course architect, Martin Hawtree, and, while they are more parkland in character that the original golf course, they have developed into an excellent addition to the course. A new clubhouse was opened in 1992. Since that time, the Club has continued to make improvements to both the course and services and is now one of the most respected golf clubs in the region.
“At Doncaster Golf Club, we realised that the level of detail contained within our previous logo did not always allow for it to be represented clearly. As a consequence, it became inconsistent in terms of its use and we had different variations existing on the website, on our course signage and on the various items in the Pro Shop. We decided to undertake a complete re-brand of the golf club and to complete this work for us, we appointed Eagle. The experience that Eagle brought and the service that they offered was first class. We would recommend Eagle and the branding services that they offer to anyone, without hesitation.”
“Our new logo has been a tremendous success for us. It is contemporary and clearly identifiable. The demand for membership and visitor bookings reflects the work we have been doing to raise the Club’s brand and Eagle has greatly assisted with this.”
