ROYAL BIRKDALE

A BRIEF HISTORY

Established on July 30, 1889, Royal Birkdale Golf Club has a rich history, beginning with its original 9-hole course near Bedford Park before relocating to its current home in the Birkdale Hills in 1897.

George Lowe, a professional from Royal Lytham & St Annes, designed the 18-hole course, while the iconic clubhouse, built in 1935 in art deco style by architect George E. Tonge, adds to the club’s charm. Gaining Royal status in 1951, the club hosted its first Open Championship in 1954, and over the years, it has hosted numerous prestigious events, including 9 Open Championships, 7 Women’s Opens, 2 Ryder Cups, a Senior Open, and various other tournaments.

OUR PROCESS

Eagle worked on putting together a comprehensive set of brand guidelines for prestigious club Royal Birkdale. After carrying out an initial audit of the club and sharing the progress with the club manager, they could not believe the inconsistencies of the brand which had been highlighted.

Following the research into the club itself and a more detailed look at the club crest, we began to create the logo digitally correcting the individual elements providing a more accurate and sharper image.

Once this was complete a comprehensive set of brand guidelines was create which contains detailed information on colour palettes, use of typography, correct logo’s and styles for the club to use going forward. This document provides the club with the foundations on maintaining a successful and consistent brand.
